How to use GEO-fix®
Fields of Application
Geo-fix® is a quick and easy way of applying a permanent rigid joint on all types of paving and wall jointing including:
- Natural Stone
- Concrete
- Slate
- Clay
- Terracotta
- Granite
When cured it will have the appearance, texture and feel of a light, sandy yellow mortar.
Application Procedure
Preparation of Substrate
Ensure that the pavers or blocks to be jointed is dry and free from loose dirt, debris, oil, grease, etc. It is essential that joint widths are a minimum of 5mm wide with a minimum depth of 25mm. Deeper joints can be part filled with dry sand or other dry materials, to the required minimum depth.
Geo-Fix® has superior flexural strength compared to mortar.
Geo-Fix® should be considered for its aesthetic and not its structural properties.
Mixing
Geo-Fix® is supplied ready to use and DOES NOT require any further mixing or addition of any other materials. It begins the curing process (hardening) as soon as it is exposed to the air by opening the vacuum sealed bag.
Application
Carefully open the vacuum packed bag and sprinkle Geo-Fix® sufficient to cover an area of 4-5 m2 (see coverage table below) Using a soft brush, push the Geo-Fix® into the joints ensuring that they are filled with the compound. To ensure a perfect joint press Geo-Fix® into the joints with a pointing tool, or compact into joints using a vibrating plate. Top up as necessary. Any residue left on the surface when cured can be simply cleaned off by sweeping with a stiff brush.

Watchpoints
Use Geo-Fix® within 45 minutes of opening (subject to air temperature). You can slow down the curing process or leftover product still in the bag by expelling as much air from the opened bag as possible, resealing it and keeping it in a cool, dry environment – this may allow most of the product remaining in the bag to last for a few hours or even a day or two.
Very important: protect treated joints from rain until fully cured. Any contact with rain and water before the compound has set will permanently prevent the product from curing properly.
Do not use at
temperatures below 0° C or in wet weather.
The jointing should not be cleaned until cured for at least 7 days. When
cleaning the distance between any nozzles and the jointing must be at least
10cm.
Here’s our step by step guide to applying Geo-Fix®:
Step 1
Thoroughly rake out all the existing joints where necessary, removing all weeds and plant growth, including roots. If Moss or Mould is present, treat whole area with Environex Maestro or similar chlorinated cleaner.
ALLOW TO DRY THOROUGHLY FOR 48 HOURS BEFORE PROCEEDING, SURFACES & JOINTS MUST BE TOTALLY DRY BEFORE APPLYING GEO-FIX®.
Step 2
Geo-Fix® should be considered for its aesthetic and not its structural properties, therefore, all paving must be firmly fixed using an appropriate bedding technique to prevent settlement and movement.
Step 3
Using a soft brush, push the Geo-Fix® compound into the joints at a 45° angle. If using on a wall surface, wear protective gloves to prevent skin irritation, pick up a handful of product and work into joints with a circular motion then repeat until satisfactory.
Step 4
Firmly compact Geo-Fix® with a pointing tool, refill and repeat ensuring a fully compacted & topped joint. Firm compaction is the key to the successful laying of Geo-Fix®. Ensure Geo-Fix® is finished slightly below the surface.
Step 5
After application, brush off excess with a soft brush, taking care not to brush out any Geo-Fix® from the treated area. Geo-Fix® will harden over a 2-3 hour period and will be at close to full hardness within about a week.
